157. Keeping the EDSA People Power Spirit Alive after 36 Years

The greatest contribution of the Filipino people to the world is the legacy of giving the world the first “People Power Revolution”. It inspired a call for a change of government through peaceful protests rather than bloodshed.  The nonviolent revolution led to the departure of Ferdinand Marcos, the end of his 20-year dictatorial rule, and the restoration of democracy in the Philippines.

What happened in EDSA should not be forgotten. Marcos’ loyalists and apologists are doing everything to deceive more Filipinos to change the current state of this country and declare the leadership of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos as the“ Golden Age”.  They can change the story of history — but they can never change the historical truth.

Various pins and medals of Ninoy, Cory, and the People Power Movement.  Yellow symbolizes the revolution and also is the official color of the LABAN (fight) political party. The “L” sign which is formed by one’s index finger and thumb is another symbol of the LABAN party and the people’s defiance of the authoritarian government at the time of the revolution.
