76. GUERRA DE FILIPINA By MANUEL ARIAS RODRIGUEZ, Philippine Spanish War Photos

These photographs were taken by Manuel Arias Rodriguez and published a book "Guerra  Filipinas". It provides us a glimpse about the Philippine Revolution in 1896-1898. Rodriguez’s photographs appeared in El Comercio  a newspaper that featured the Philippine - Spanish War.

The most popular photograph of  M. Arias Rodriguez is the execution of Jose Rizal in Bagumbayan (now Luneta) on Dec 30, 1896

  1. Another well researched one, I Must say. A wealth of history this (archea)pelago contains. I am not a historian even though I read and learn from real tangible books, It is wonderful that this blog is definitely Informative, well researched and you share it not only To the present but future generations as well. There is this joke that the younger ones (and once) already have more collectible antiques then perhaps all those that came before, having devices that are rendered obsolete every six months. :)

  4. I would also like to know if there is a re-print available. Manuel Arias Rodriguez was my great grandfather. Most of his original plates were lost when Manila was bombed by the returning Americans. Many reproductions of his photos can be seen at the GBR Museum in the Philippines.

    1. Your great grand father is truly a great photographer, you should be proud of him. These numerous historical pictures that he had taken are priceless. As a student of history Mr. Arias Rodriguez gave life to this period of time when we are struggling for independence.

    1. Mike, I would like to speak with you. I am from Spain, and indeed, the photographic legacy of your great-grandfather, can be found in that magazine between 1897 and 1900, and there are copies for sale. There is also a separate aspect of photography, which is the philately, and in cincreto the emission of the Marianas, in which your great-grandfather had a fundamental participation, and unknown for many!
