70. AWARD WINNING PHILIPPINE CIGARETTES during the SPANISH PERIOD

It is no surprise that our cigars and cigarette are among the best in the world.  With more than 2 centuries of tobacco monopoly we were able to perfect the manufacture of  these products.

The Philippines is blessed with rich soil and generally favorable climatic conditions for the cultivation of tobacco.  The fertile soil of Ilocos region, resulted in the production of quality tobacco that was sought after by cigar and cigarette smokers.  Our tobacco leaf, was considered to be one of the best types of tobacco in Asia.

These following Philippine cigarette factories boast on their wrappers that they were given awards in different international expositions during the 19th century when the Philippine was still a colony of Spain.
